Heart of a Lion (2013) – English Review

A neo-Nazi falls in love with a woman, but he is in for a surprise when it turns out that she is the mother of a colored child. Will this child change him, or will this end badly?

Heart of a Lion is an excellent and entertaining movie where we follow a neo-Nazi who is the leader of the neo-Nazi group, and he also has a brother who is a neo-Nazi. Their relationship will be put to the test when the older brother must take care of his girlfriend’s colored child. She is pregnant with his baby and ends up in the hospital, so he has to look after the colored child and hide him from his neo-Nazi group so they don’t find out.

This is a movie that has it all. It has humor, it has tension, it has light drama, and it combines all of these elements perfectly. The most intense scenes are when the younger brother gets angry at the father of the colored boy, and you feel that something bad is going to happen. You also get the impression that maybe the brother will tell the group that their leader is taking care of a colored child. Will this happen, or is their fragile bond strong enough to keep them together?

After the neo-Nazi meets the child, the child tries to get rid of him and even attempts to kill him. But the neo-Nazi doesn’t seem like a bad person. He’s stuck in the past, but he wants to become a better man and start a new life. Still, his past will always haunt him, especially after something awful happens to his girlfriend when karma comes for a visit. Yet you can see that he’s willing to change, even when the child makes it difficult for him to get closer.

The acting is solid, especially from the actors who play the two brothers. They have excellent chemistry, and I loved how intense the scenes were with the younger brother, when he got angry, or when you felt he might be up to something. He has such powerful energy in those moments, while the older brother comes across as a man who genuinely wants to change.

I don’t feel like they make many movies like this anymore. So if you enjoy movies where a man changes his mentality in a pretty easy way because he loves his woman and is about to become a father, then this is an entertaining movie that mixes different genres, and the end result is that it works. That’s something I can’t say about every movie.
