After a night out, a man meets a woman, and they fall in love. But are they meant to be together forever and ever?
I enjoyed “The End of the Pale Hour” in the first half when we follow the woman and the young man who fall in love. They don’t know each other, and I was questioning why they found each other interesting since they don’t have that much in common. The woman is older than the man, and the young man must man up when he takes the step into the adult world and lands a boring job that will kill his soul. His colleagues are like watching paint dry, and you can tell he is suffering. But the woman he has met brightens up his gray life, and he meets a new friend who is a man with ambitions.
But then the movie changes in the second half when a secret is revealed to us, the viewers. It turns out that the young man knew about the secret, so it doesn’t come as a surprise to him. However, he is a boring character to follow, and years go by, and he doesn’t change at all. He is as boring as when we first met him, and the character that held the glue together is nowhere to be seen.
There is not much going on in “The End of the Pale Hour.” It’s a movie about becoming a man, taking responsibility, and trying to do the best you can out of a dire situation. You wonder why a pretty woman hits on this boring man. She is way too hot for him, and they don’t share any interests. That’s when the secret comes into the picture, but it doesn’t do much to help the story when the secret of all secrets is revealed. The man will always be a boring, quiet, wooden plank!
