PMS and car washing.
A woman who struggles to control her temper due to PMS meets a man dealing with panic attacks. Together, they try to support each other.
All the Long Nights is a warm movie about a man and a woman who both have personal struggles and happen to work at the same place. The man is dissatisfied with his job and wants to return to his previous one, but first, he needs to overcome his panic attacks. At work, he meets a woman dealing with PMS and frequent anger outbursts. As they grow closer, they support one another, but their relationship never turns romantic—and that’s perfectly fine. It’s engaging to watch them navigate their issues and help each other along the way.
The movie includes a few humorous scenes involving the woman and her PMS. When she loses control, she lashes out about things that irritate her about the people around her. While there aren’t many of these moments, it’s particularly funny when the man tries to help her by suggesting she wash a car. That scene is adorable, and the actors perform it beautifully.
Other characters in the movie face their own challenges, but they don’t get much screen time, which is fine since the focus is on the man and the woman. However, some of these characters are part of a support group, and it felt a bit odd that the movie didn’t delve into their stories more—beyond a brief scene where they explain why they’re there.
The two leads have great chemistry, and I especially enjoyed Mone Kamishiraishi’s performance as the woman. There’s something captivating about her body language and the way she carries herself. She’s a bit goofy yet confident in what she wants.
It’s refreshing to see a Japanese movie where people openly address their problems, and the workplace doesn’t feel like a typical Japanese office environment—the characters genuinely enjoy being there. It’s a reminder that this is a bit of a Japanese fantasy movie.
All the Long Nights is a warm and charming movie, a typical Japanese slice-of-life movie that takes its time. If you enjoy movies like this, All the Long Nights is worth checking out. It will calm you and warm your heart as you follow its pleasant characters.
