A boy who is bullied at school tries to fit in and become friends with the people who are bullying him. One day, a strange human that turns out to be a sort of vampire or ghoul attacks them. But they capture the ugly thing. But there are two of them, and the other is searching for the other one.
Mon Mon Mon Monsters is directed by Giddens Ko, who has made movies such as You Are the Apple of My Eye and Till We Meet Again.
I sort of enjoyed the first 30 minutes of the movie. But after the first 30 minutes, Mon Mon Mon Monsters became a tiresome movie that I had to take a break from while I was watching it. After the group has captured the vampire or ghoul, the movie becomes so predictable and boring. I am not sure if they are vampires or ghouls, but they have so many similarities to a vampire, so I am going to call them vampires.
The problem is that the characters in Mon Mon Mon Monsters are sociopaths. The movie has a strange atmosphere, and it feels wrong. And when you end up hating the protagonist, who is a bully victim, the movie has a big problem in my eyes.
So the protagonist is bullied at school, and he tries to become friends with the sociopaths. And he never gets help from the hot teacher, who is a strange character who does not like him. So she tells him to become friends with the sociopaths, and after they capture a vampire, they start torturing her and experimenting on her to find out what she is. And it escalates after that as usual.
The story could be interesting, but except for the apathetic, hot teacher, there are no adults here. So why make such a bleak movie when, in the end, it is hard to take the movie seriously? The two vampires can kill innocent people while the authorities do nothing. Come on! This is lazy writing! What is the movie trying to tell us except for the question about who the real monsters are?
The cinematography is pretty good, but the characters stink! They are not interesting, and they are not funny. They are damaged goods, and I hate following characters like these when all of them act the same. They do not give a damn about the world. As a viewer, you don’t care about them. These are characters you will find in a Rob Zombie movie. And I hate his characters!
Mon Mon Mon Monsters were not as entertaining as I first thought it would be. There are two groups of monsters here. The vampires and the humans, and that is nothing new. The vampires reminded me of the vampires in 30 Days of Night. There is some social commentary about the society the characters live in, but that didn’t work at all, since I almost fell asleep because of boredom and the empty sociopaths.
