Special Actors (2019) – English Review

Money greedy bastards!

A young man with dreams of becoming an actor has a significant problem. When he becomes very nervous, he faints. One day, he encounters his brother, who works as an actor for a company that rents out actors. They receive different assignments, and one day, a girl approaches them, looking to hire several actors. She shares a story about a cult that is deceiving her sister. She and her sister lost their parents in a car accident, and her sister intends to hand over the inn to this cult. Now, the group of actors must stop the evil cult’s plan. They are just out to fill their pockets with other people’s money, which is nothing new.

“Special Actors” is directed by Shin’ichirô Ueda, the man behind “One Cut of the Dead.” Almost everyone loved “One Cut of the Dead.” The movie is good, but I preferred “Special Actors” more than “One Cut of the Dead.”

I had forgotten that it was the same director who had made “One Cut of the Dead” when I sat down to watch “Special Actors.” However, it didn’t take long before I got the same feeling I had when I watched “One Cut of the Dead.”

What surprised me is that the movie has a more serious and dark tone in the first half before it transitions to charm and fills the room with warmth. However, it’s disturbing to follow this cult.

A cult is not cool, and you become upset when you see how they operate. The leaders should be held accountable for their actions. They don’t have the right to live; they are scumbags! You also feel sympathy for the two young women who have lost their parents. As a viewer, you feel frustrated when the older sister doesn’t realize that the cult is taking advantage of her. But then the fun begins in the second half!

This is a heartwarming movie with some funny scenes. It also has a significant surprise in store, just like “One Cut of the Dead” did. I won’t say more, but if you enjoyed “One Cut of the Dead,” then “Special Actors” should also appeal to you. After watching “Special Actors,” you will feel happy. I can promise you that!
