A group of Korean soldiers is sent out to find out what happened to some missing soldiers. They are in Vietnam, and they end up in a haunted place where many people have died before them. Is it their time to die now?
This was the third time I watched R-Point. I remember thinking it was decent the first time I watched it. But when I watched it the second time, I didn’t like it that much. And this time, I ended up hating it. Thank God my taste and understanding of movies have matured. This is a terrible movie!
Some years later, the director made a movie very similar to R-Point, The Guard Post (2008). I believe R-Point earned some decent money, so he got the chance to direct another movie. But after The Guard Post (2008), which I also watched, he never directed a movie again. And that’s something we should be thankful for! Praise the Lord. Hallelujah!
If the soldiers in R-Point represent South Korean soldiers in modern times, it’s no wonder the Americans have to lead South Korea and hold their hand. What a bunch of whiny soldiers we’re following! They whine all the time. Is this supposed to be a joke? They are despicable! Here we see a South Korean movie that loses control and hammers us with terrible acting and melodrama. It isn’t good!
And the actors also stink. It’s disgusting to witness the bad overacting. They are a disgrace to the acting world with their stinky acting!
And Kam Woo-seong, who plays the protagonist, has no charisma. He has starred in several movies, but it seems like he quit doing movies and is now working on TV shows. And thank God for that! He’s the most lifeless actor I’ve ever witnessed. How the hell did he manage to get a career as an actor? He’s worse than Michael Wong, for God’s sake! When I was watching the movie, I wondered if anyone on set thought they should leave him behind when they were finished shooting. It looks like he’s found his final resting place. He fits right in, and I can understand the people who thought he was a genuine ghost and that they should just leave him there.
So, is the movie scary? Hell no! How can a movie be scary when it has annoying characters and bad acting? The script is so thin. There’s no story here. It tries to create some mystery, but it doesn’t succeed at all in building tension. The story is terrible to the bone. There’s no story to tell!
The only half-cool scene is when some of the soldiers who are still alive follow a group of ghosts and lie down on the ground, and then the ghost patrol vanishes into thin air. I have always liked that scene. There is also some atmosphere early in the movie when they arrive at the spooky house and the area surrounding it. But there’s not much more to experience here if you have watched a lot of horror movies.
But in the end the atrocious acting kills the whole atmosphere the movie tries to create. It’s hard not to press the stop button when the actors spew out the terrible dialogue.
If someone recommends you watch R-Point, tell them to go to hell! Tell them the sleepy, creepy, pervert guy said hello, and he’s waiting for them in hell with his whip!
