Will Ning meet the love of his life again?
After escaping from prison, Ning meets a woman who looks like the woman he met in the first movie, but it’s not her. This is another woman named Windy, and now he must help her and her sister when their father is going to be executed for a crime he didn’t commit.
“A Chinese Ghost Story II” starts where the first movie ended. We get a lot of the same in this sequel, but there’s more action in the sequel. In fact, there’s too much action, and I could have wished for a slower pace.
I wanted more romance and feelings between the two lovers, something I felt was missing in the sequel. The lovers become too distant, and the beautiful story from the first movie is never properly followed up.
The action scenes are mediocre. The camera is too close to the actors during the action scenes, and the editing is a mess when the actors are not skilled martial artists.
The monsters we see are big dolls, and they look cheap. You can say that the special effects haven’t stood the test of time. It’s a little charming, but just a little.
It looks like the actors are having fun. But honestly, the script isn’t very good. They have to keep the heads of their characters above water, so they don’t drown. And it’s always funny that the villain, who is a man, has a female voice.
“A Chinese Ghost Story II” offers a much faster pace compared to the first movie, which offered more dialogue and emotions. The sequel isn’t as good as the first movie, but it’s charming and entertaining. However, I feel that the first movie has stood the test of time better than the sequel.
