The corruption never ends.
As usual, there is tension between the police and the prosecutors. The police are tired of not being able to do their job because they don’t have the authority to take the necessary actions to solve cases. They have to rely on the prosecutors, which hinders them from doing their job when time is running short to arrest suspects, since the prosecutors hold most of the power. And we know that many of them are corrupt. The prosecutors are not interested in losing the power they have over the “peasants” in the police force, so they make a deal with the police to see if they can come to some sort of agreement during meetings where they discuss their experiences and so on. But then a prosecutor goes missing, and our two heroes from the first season are back to investigate. Once again, they will fight corruption while trying to find the missing prosecutor.
The second season of Stranger consists of 16 episodes. The first season was great, and the second season is also great, but these are two very different types of seasons. For the audience, the first season is far more entertaining and easier to follow, while the second season is better written but harder to keep up with.
There is a lot of dialogue in the second season, and there are many names to remember. If you don’t keep track, the season will drive you nuts because it’s not easy to follow due to all the talking and different characters. There’s so much information to take in, and several different stories are going on at the same time.
Even though I sometimes didn’t catch all the details in the story, the script for this season is excellent. The focus is again on corruption, and that may sound boring, but with so many different characters and how most of the cases are connected, it makes for an engaging experience. That said, I can understand why some people might prefer the more linear first season, which also had a really good and entertaining script.
As in the first season, you can’t complain about the acting in the second. The acting is fantastic, the characters are interesting, and when you have such good performances, it’s hard to go back to, for example, watching series from the West.
However, the second season isn’t perfect. I was a little disappointed in the last episode, where one case never got solved. I also wasn’t completely satisfied with how it all ended, since corruption doesn’t seem to die in this series. So I’m not sure if there will ever be a third season to bring it to a proper conclusion.
