Vampires in the skies.
A group of terrorists hijacks a passenger plane. But they don’t expect that there is a vampire on board who has her son with her, and she is trying to protect him from the terrorists.
I enjoyed the first hour of Blood Red Sky. A mother who is a vampire is trying to find a cure for her vampirism, and she travels with her young son. She is going to a hospital of some sort that might be able to help her, but then a group of terrorists hijacks the plane, and all hell breaks loose.
The first hour is the best, especially with the terrorists. But then Blood Red Sky loses control, and it ends up as an action movie with a lot of vampires. I wish they had not gone down that path. The first hour is excellent. It builds up to something, but it holds back. It builds up the characters we are following. In the second half, however, it feels like you are watching a Hollywood blockbuster. All the things the movie has built up feel wasted, and once it goes down the action path, it never looks back.
The acting is decent, nothing more than that. But I wish an actor like Roland Møller had gotten more screen time. I like this actor, especially when he plays a bad guy. He is an underrated actor.
Blood Red Sky is not a super gory movie. So if you are looking for a gorefest, this is not the movie for you. There is some blood here. Some of the first murders are intense, especially when the hijackers kill some of the passengers. I just wish Blood Red Sky could have kept that energy and atmosphere throughout the entire movie.
Blood Red Sky has a great first half, but the second half disappoints when it turns into a generic
action movie. It should not have turned so many passengers into vampires. That was a big mistake.
