A man who needs money tries to take care of a girl who lives alone after her mother suddenly dies. She is deaf and blind, and she can not speak. So the man tries to communicate with her. But that will be difficult, and he still needs money. The girl can be the key to solving his money problems.
The title of the movie is disgusting, but it’s an interesting and touching movie about a selfish man who has to take care of a young girl that he can’t communicate with. He knew her mother who worked for him, and she owed him some money. He goes to her apartment to see if he can find some money so that he can pay off his debt. The only thing he finds in the apartment is a smelly, deaf, and blind girl who is afraid of him, and she lives inside her little bubble. That is hard to watch. I felt so sorry for the little, defenseless girl, who hides and is sort of invisible to the world.
So we see the protagonist get closer to the girl. After a while, she begins to trust him, and you should know the rest of the story. He owes a dangerous and violent man some money, which didn’t surprise me, since this is a South Korean movie. They love their gangsters, but I wish the gangster character never existed in the movie. It’s so generic and used up.
My Lovely Angel has several touching moments you expect from a movie like this. The chemistry between the two leading actors is great. I have been a fan of Jin Goo since, A Dirty Carnival (2006). I love the aura this guy has. He is perfect in gangster movies, and it’s interesting to see how an actor like this tries to be more emotional and caring. It’s not like watching Arnold Schwarzenegger in his family-friendly movies. This guy can act, and he proves it in My Lovely Angel.
The young actress is also cute and solid. I usually can’t stand young child actors, but she gives us so much information with the use of her body language. She impressed me, and she wasn’t irritating. Thank God for Asian child actors! And she was just seven years old in this movie! That is crazy! What a talent!
The ending didn’t surprise me, and it lacked the last punch in the stomach. I felt that the script didn’t wrap up the story completely. But it’s a cute and emotional movie that will warm your heart if you have a heart. But I wasn’t a fan of the gangster character. He didn’t belong here.
