Coming Soon: The Point Men (2023) | South Korea |

The rescue operation.

The Point Men is released in January in South Korean cinemas. The movie is based on true events that happened in 2007 when 23 South Korean missionaries were held as hostages by the Taliban. But I guess most of the movie is going to be fiction.

The Point Men is directed by Yim Soon-rye. She has made movies such as the disappointing Forever the Moment (2009), Whistleblower (2014), and the remake of the Japanese movies based on a manga, Little Forest (2018). I have watched the two original Japanese movies, but I haven’t watched the remake. But one day when I find the time, I’m going to watch it.

Of the movies I have watched made by this director, I can’t say I’m a fan of hers. But I love movies based on true events, especially hero movies.

And when we have the excellent Hwang Jung-min in a leading role, I’m in! You should recognize him from just seeing his picture. He has starred in tons of movies, and he always delivers. Hyun Bin also has a big role, and I have watched him in a lot of movies, but he hasn’t won me over yet. Maybe this is the movie?

The trailer looks pretty good and fast-paced, so maybe the director has been inspired by Kathryn Bigelow, and she is going to show us she has grown a pair of big balls. I’m crossing my fingers that this will be a solid action thriller.
