This is the story of the Gucci family.
I don’t like fashion, and fashion doesn’t like me. I have heard of the name Gucci. I know they are fashion designers from Italy. But other than that, I knew nothing when I sat down to watch House of Gucci.
House of Gucci is directed by Ridley Scott. I liked his previous movie, The Last Duel (2021). But with House of Gucci, he has made a mediocre and boring movie that lasts too long. The runtime is around 150 minutes, and it’s pretty spectacular to experience how much time he spends on nothingness instead of telling the entire story from start to finish.
It turns out that the ending is really weak. Towards the end, the movie skips two years. Those two years are, for me, interesting if you know nothing about the story and investigation. But Ridley Scott decides to forget about those two years and shows us the conclusion with some text on the screen. That’s all. Well, that isn’t good storytelling!
The movie has some excellent actors and a famous lady called Lady Gaga. I didn’t like her role interpretation. She tries too hard to be intense. She ends up becoming an annoying character that felt more comedic than natural. She shouldn’t have gotten this role. You feel she’s trying to act all the time, while the best ones don’t have to do that. It comes naturally to them.
And then we have the hated Jared Leto. I’m not a fan of his, and I guess I’m not the only one who doesn’t like him. He was a terrible Joker, and in House of Gucci, he plays and looks like Penguin’s son. The makeup is impressive. The thing that bothered me is that I know nothing about the character he plays. I don’t know if he was a moron in real life or not. So either Jared Leto overacts, or he is brilliant in this role. I’m not sure at all. But either way, I liked his silly role interpretation.
And what’s up with the terrible Italian accents? Either make the actors speak Italian or just let them speak like they normally do without accents. Some of them sound like Russians, for God’s sake! Lady Gaga is especially terrible. F-ing Hollywood and their stupidity!
House of Gucci is mostly a long and lifeless movie that has despicable and selfish characters that you don’t care about. The movie lacks energy, and it doesn’t have characters you feel are interesting. The bunch we follow in House of Gucci are, for the most part, caricatures. The movie needed a more human touch when they created the characters.
